Tour de France

The Tour de France is one of the world’s greatest sporting events, with over 3.5 billion global TV viewers over its 3 week programme.

In 2014, the Tour started in Yorkshire and Moded worked on a number of official projects including a merchandising e-commerce website, management of retail sales across the City of York and wider event management. We even got to install a 15m geodesic party dome and shop on a national monument!

It was a huge honour for us to be commissioned by our local authority to work in the heart of this prestigious and unique event for the region.

The Tour de France project gave us a broad remit to manage all online and offline merchandising with six retail outlets in the City of York, including a flagship store at the York Designer Outlet. We also sat on the event planning board to assist with the wider logistics of the event.  Commissioned by City of York Council, our project work included:

Showcasing Yorkshire

The Grand Départ 2014 provided a huge opportunity to showcase the ancient City of York and stunning Yorkshire countryside. The immediate economic benefit to the region was £128m, with further long term benefits in the tourism sector.

The event was a huge logistical operation involving thousands of people and organisations. Being at the heart of this historic event was exciting, rewarding and exhausting in equal measure.
